Welcome...
...to the making of...
...Macabre
So introduce yourself guys. TOM, look at... [Laugh]
In the early stage of the script,
there should have at least 10 actors in the film
However we knew that we couldn't handle that amount of actors
so we trimmed the available seats into five only.
That was unexpectedly better than the original plan.
Since horror films should produce the helpless feeling instead of putting many characters into the movie
the casts were active and out of control
but this only happened before the filming
When the filming started, the casts were professional. And they tried to show the best performances...
...to the audience
Paranormal Activity has earned over $100 million
at the US box office alone. We were fascinated with that result,
and we decided to make a similar film, but use only USD$25.
We used 8 days to film the movie, the location is focused in the house. We had filmed many takes, many of them didn't meet the requirement,
but the parts were very funny and made our crews laughed.
We enjoyed the process.
One of the biggest challenges of making this movie is that, we have to make the film looks real,
which means to make it looks like documentary or found footage.
We didn't apply so many effects this time.
We'd used many effects in The M.I.A, but we knew that horror films should be genuinely horror, instead of adding action elements.
We found that the lighting is very important for building the disturbing mood of the movie.
In this movie, the zombie sounds, bone cracking sounds, fire, blood,
most of the effects were made by ourselves.
Our team wanted the make up to look gory and voilent.
We had referenced the make-ups shown in several famous horror movies,
before we made our own make-up.
Our actor was painted in several phases.
We drew a concept art for the make-up first,
and then we followed the concept art...
to finish the make-up.
(Hello, Ms Heather)
The editing this time was tough,
we used 29 days to edit the whole film,
we've made many versions of the movie,
which have different storylines and different endings.
And we selected the most scariest version among the versions we've made.
