This is the civil rights issue of our generation. It is up to us to demand excellence. It is
us -- up to us to make sure that every single child in this country gets a world-class education.
We have to march together, we have to work together, we have to make sure all of us are
accountable. Our young people have to take their education very, very seriously. If they
work hard, if they go to college, they have a world of opportunity. If they don’t, if
they drop out, there are no options, no opportunities to be out there for them. The dividing line
in our country today is less around white and black and more around educational opportunity.
It is the civil rights issue of our generation. If we give every single child in this country
a great education, our country will go to a different level and, if not, we’ll continue
to struggle. Ladies and gentlemen, we’ve waited too long. We’ve been too complacent;
we’ve been too satisfied to have second class schools. We’ve been too complacent
in accepting dropout factories, we can no longer do that. We have to step up, we have
to work together, we have to demand excellence and now--not 40 years from now, not five decades
from now, now we have to fulfill Dr. King’s legacy.
God bless.
Thank you for all of your hard work.
