The girls delivery was not as expected at all.
They were born at 23 weeks and four days. The first one lived about an hour
And then I was induced for the second one and she is in the NICU still,
going on 15 weeks tomorrow. We found the Ronald McDonald Family Room through
our NICU nurse. After I delivered the girls they brought us
here immediately and showed us that this is new
we could use for my husband and I and for our family.
We opened the St. David's Women's Center of Texas in May of this year.
Very soon after that we had the grand opening of the Ronald McDonald Family Room
It was very important to us to have a place for our families to go for some respite, some
quiet time an area where they can have some privacy and
kind of be away from the noise and the monitors of the intensive care unit.
When you have a baby in the NICu you hopefully are here as much as you can be here
I usually get here about 9 in the morning My husband comes up on his lunch break
every day and then sometimes we come up at night together.
And the Ronald McDonald Room has been really helpful.
They walk down here and they come in and it's calming.
Sometimes they just want to sit in a chair and just be here.
Other times maybe they just want to put something on TV
lean back in the chair--they can just take a deep breath.
And I can come and grab a soup, and a drink, check my email, and sometimes I grab a piece
of chocolate.
It is just very very simple things that this room provides.
It's inviting, its's welcoming, it allows you to have conversation with other
NICU parents. It means a lot to us to know we have somewhere
to go and stuff and just relax. I think every hospital needs a Ronald McDonald
Room.
