Dance gets golden at the Globes, Hellcats returns to
the CW, and a new music video that will have you
dancing in your seat.
This is Just Dance for January 20, 2011.
The 68th annual Golden Globe Awards aired January 16 on
NBC, and the Hollywood Foreign Press Association awarded the
best in film and television from the 2010 season.
Glee hit it big winning three awards of their five
nominations.
Supporting actors Chris Colfer and Jane Lynch took home the
honor, and Glee was awarded with best
comedic television series.
Last fall's Burlesque nabbed best original song for Cher's
tune "You Haven't Seen the Last of Me," which was written
by Diane Warren.
And Natalie Portman was recognized for her stunning
performance in Aronofsky's Black Swan.
Portman was also awarded with the Critic's Choice award in
the same category on January 14.
Stick with DanceOn to follow Natalie's road to the Oscars.
On January 8, actor/comedian Jim Carrey got in touch with
his dancing skills while hosting Saturday Night Live.
During the late night variety show, audiences were treated
to a very funny skit about the film Black Swan.
In the parody, Carey portrayed Lily, the role played by Mila
Kunis in the Aronofsky movie.
With a tutu, ballet slippers, and pulled-back hair, Carrey
embodied all of the traits necessary to dance the role of
the Black Swan.
At the end of the hilarious skit, Jim even donned the
iconic makeup from the film.
Saturday Night Live's resident choreographer, Danielle Flora,
did very well placing easy, yet funny moves on Carrey.
Maybe ballet is Jim's new calling.
After a nice holiday break from Lancer University, the
Hellcats are back and ready to take on anyone who gets in
their way at sectionals.
In return episode entitled "Papa, oh Papa," Alice
blackmails Savannah into giving up her spot as a flyer
in order to prevent him from finding out
she lost the position.
What secret information does Alice hold
over Savannah's head?
You'll have to tune in to find out.
And choreographer Paul Becker tells us that next week's
episode is packed with dance including numbers at sectional
and a cheer off.
Watch Hellcats on its new night, Tuesday, January, 25 at
9:00, 8:00 central.
If you like it, then you should have put
a tap shoe on it.
That's how we feel about this new viral video that you have
to check out.
It's called "Tap" and stars So You Think You Can Dance alum
Melinda Sullivan who came in ninth place on the seventh
season of the competitive reality show.
Set to Sara Bareilles' cover of "Single Ladies," the video
was produced by Imagiland Productions and directed by
Dante Russo.
We love how beautifully Russo blends Melinda Sullivan's
original tap-fused choreography with his stylized
intricate camerawork.
The final piece is perfectly edited, beautifully danced,
and is sure to make you smile.
On January 23, we celebrate the 78th birthday of musical
theater icon and dance legend Chita Rivera, the first
Hispanic woman to receive a Kennedy Center Honors award.
Chita has starred in 15 Broadway productions.
The nine-time Tony award nominee originated some of
today's most coveted roles in theater, including Rose in
Bye, Bye Birdie, Velma Kelly in Chicago, and Anita in West
Side Story.
Rivera received Tony awards for best leading actress in
her turn as Anna in The Rink and Spider Woman in Kiss of
the Spider Woman directed by Harold Prince.
Chita was last seen on Broadway in Chita Rivera, The
Dancer's Life, which was her own life story told through
song and dance.
Happy birthday, Chita.
Northern Ireland's indie rock trio Two Door Cinema Club
debuted the music video for their new single "What You
Know," and we are obsessed with it.
The dancers' moves are fairly simple, but it's the
simplicity that makes "What You Know" so stellar.
The girls balance, shake, and jump in a captivating way that
just makes you want to dance too.
Two Door Cinema Club's debut album Tourist History, hit
stores in the US on April 27.
To recap, you saw Chita celebrate her birth, Hellcats
celebrate their return, and Black Swan celebrate it's
Golden Globe wins.
Tune in next week for an all new episode of Just Dance on
DanceOn, the dance video network.
