My name is Barbara Esses and I do events for a living. I'm Ruthie Hecht; I'm an event planner
and I work with and for my mother. We're going to teach you the do's and don'ts for the perfect
wedding. The wedding cake has taken on a tremendous importance in the last generation, and the
variety and styles are limitless. There are bakers in every city in this country that
one can find online, one can see on television, and the choices are limitless. It's a good
idea for the bride and groom to choose the style they would like to go with the wedding
they're doing. They choose the flavors and the obviously go and taste it. The other very
important question to ask is when the cake is baked because due to the level of decoration
that people are putting on their cakes today that's a very big time issue. They can't possibly
bake and decorate a cake that's going to be fresh the day of your wedding. But you do
want to know that if the wedding is on Saturday that it wasn't baked the Saturday before.
So it's perfectly appropriate to ask when it's being baked, when it's being decorated,
and when it's being brought to the wedding venue. I think most brides and grooms get
a very, very good feeling because the bakers who do these cakes are very warm, sincere
happy people -- they bake for a living. So if you go somewhere and you have a great rapport
with that person, buy the wedding cake there.
