Hey everyone, I'm Natalie, and I'm the co-founder of The Rose Centre for Young Adults with Disabilities
So 2 years ago I started dating this wonderful man named Tim Rose. Now he was the first person I've ever dated with a physical disability
and he'll actually also be the last person i date with a physical disability because, we're getting married.
So when we started dating, and even now really, things come up in our relationship because of his disability
So some things were you know me learning to live life accessibly, um because as a person without a physical disability, although I had thought about it before, I never really had to live that life
also, learning how to navigate our relationship in the context of Tim's attendants was something that was totally new
and even things that, you know, I'd never really considered, like other people assumed I had an ulterior motive for dating Tim, which was weird to me because
in none of my previous relationship had anyone ever thought that there was an ulterior motive going on
so all these things were sort of coming up, and Tim and I would talk about it but, you know, I'd never really met anybody else who had ever dealt with these thing
and even sort of looking online, or look around, like there was not really anybody that I could talk to who had just sort of experience the same things
not really to solve my problems, but just more to talk about this stuff with
and that's sort of why we created The Rose Centre for Young Adults with Disabilities
and since I created this organization with Tim, we've met so many amazing people and people who have shared our experiences and can understand what we've gone through and
people that can offer us support and then in some instances, us being able to offer them support as well
and that's really why the Rose Centre is so important. It allows us to, you know, connect with other people, like-minded people, share experiences, get together
help solve each others problems, and, um, just generally help to feel good about life.
So we're so excited about the new website launching because we're really hoping that it can create a space where all sorts of people can come together
people from different places and spaces and all these things to talk about issues and support each other and problem solve together
and that's why we really want to see everyone come out to the July 7th event. It's going to be great
We're holding it at a restaurant, there's going to be food and we're going to do a fun presentation and really it's going to be a fun time for us all to get together and connect socially
so, you know if your in Toronto and you feel like checking it out please come on down next week, it's actually a week from today
We're also so excited about the fundraising campaign that we've started, we're actually at 3310 dollars, which is even up from yesterday when Tim gave you the update there
so this money is so important to us because it really is going to help us continue to hold events and make sure that they are accessible for all
and without it we can't keep holding events, so if you haven't donated already, really if you'd like to, we appreciate any donation big or small, 1 dollar, 20 dollars
anything you can spare. You can visit our website at www.therosecentre.ca, there will be a link down there somewhere for you to check it out
and just in general, you know, we're so glad that we've been able to get the Rose Centre out there to people, and that people are starting to hear about it and come and connect with us and
really, it's a very important thing. So come to the event, donate, tell you friends, like us on facebook, we're on twitter and all those things as well
Ya. This is Natalie, signing off from The Rose Centre for Young Adults with Disabilities. Hope to see you guys next week
