Hello my name is Jack Hollingsworth, and you are watching AdoramaTV . In this Picture Perfect
episode we're going to be sharing with you simple tips and tricks for shooting
small-town photography with your iPhone. Even though you're shooting in small
towns your photographs can still have big impact because it's not so much
where you're shooting but what you're shooting when you get there. You know every
single small town, village, hamlet that you visit and photograph has its own
unique soul if you will, its own NUMA, its own spirit, its own ethos. It's your job as
a photographer to find it.
I think as a photographer some times we make the mistake of thinking small town
equals small photography. Get that out of your head.
Photography in and of small towns can be as dynamic and powerful and moving and
inspiring as photography in urban or city centers around the world. You know
most small towns are quiet places and that's the perfect location for you to
listen to the creative muse within because in small-town photography it's
generally your first instinct and impulses that
are the best ones. Remember we're talking about small town photography, what you lose in variety
in the big cities you gain access in small town. We're here in the small town
of Valentine in West Texas and I'm shooting the famous
roadside Prada installation and what a treat it is.I can walk right up to it, I
can walk around it.
The sun's about to come up.
You know another thing you hear me say often in my video tutorials is to zoom
with your feet.
Generally speaking we don't want to use the digital zoom that comes bundled with
a camera because that pixelates the image and makes for a lousy print. Zooming with
your feet means physically getting closer to the subject that you’re shooting
with your feet. Walking up to it as you can see I'm doing here at the Prada
installation.
Talk about small-town gem’s, Eve's garden in Marathon is awesome if you're looking
for a bed and breakfast
out in the middle of nowhere. Forty miles from Big Bend park. This place is an
explosion of color and a photographers dream. Look at the pictures that I got in
a window of about 15 minutes. Thank you Eve's garden. Thank you small town.
In some small towns that might mean that you’re focused on food and beverage or smell
and sound. Maybe in another you're focused on color and even another you're
chasing light but rest assured that every single small town you visit has
its own unique personality. Find it.
