It's been more than 27 years since Nintendo introduced space heroine Samus Aran. And even
though the pixilated graphics don't hold up against modern high definition standards,
this first game in the Metroid series is still worthy of your time. These are five great
memories we have about Metroid on the Nintendo Entertainment System!
There's nothing more satisfying then obtaining new powers. Not only because these powers
make your suit even cooler, but above all because they enable you to reach areas that
were previously out of your reach. Samus will lean to jump higher get better weapons and
learn to morph into a ball.
Metroid is not a horror game at all, but the atmosphere of this game is creepy. The developers
have stated that the caverns of the planet Zebes are inspired by the first Alien movie.
The colors and sprites really got that feel to it, but instead of one alien, developers
created tons of enemies. The more the better right?!
Atmosphere is what Metroid does not lack at all. Besides its graphics the music is adding
lots of creepiness to the game. The music while fighting Mother Brain alone is enough
to give me freaking goose bumps!
When you start playing Metroid there's no introduction, no guidelines. You are Samus
Aran on the planet Zebes and you adventure starts now. The confusion, disorientation
and elements of discovery in this game are amazing. After obtaining new powers you will
need to go back to earlier visited rooms to see which previously unreachables are now
open for your visit.
One of the coolest reasons to play and re-play Metroid is its motivation for speed runs.
Till the very end of Metroid the game makes you believe Samus Aran is a man, but finish
the game fast enough and she will reveal her blonde long hairs and her true gender!
