For State of the Valley News…I’m Naseeba Saeed and here’s what’s happening!
According to EcoWatch.com, more than 1 trillion plastic bags are used and discarded worldwide each
year!
Student life created this plastic monster to show how many plastic bags an average family
of 4 uses each year - it’s 1,330! The goal is to educate students to cut down on plastic
and start using recyclable bags.
And speaking of green efforts… BI-SCI 3 - Environmental Science -showcased their sustainability
research from the semester, with a poster display.
It was a busy week for poster presentations…BIO 439 students also presented their semester's
research. This year’s topics focused on a protein associated with different diseases, like tuberculosis.
Academic research projects were also on display at the Penn State Regional Undergraduate Research
Symposium held here on campus. Honors were handed out to top projects in STEM, ARTS,
Humanities, Business and Social and Behavioral Sciences categories.
The keynote speaker, Dr. Brian Krock of the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, is a former Penn State Lehigh Valley student.
Penn State Lehigh Valley students also shared their professional experiences at the Internship
Poster Presentation held by Career Services.

And finally – it’s time for a change on campus! You might have noticed the clock on
the front of the building is gone – that’s because the school is getting a brand new
Penn State Lehigh Valley sign! Here’s a sneak peak.
And that’s what’s happening on campus. If you’d like to be a part of “State of
the Valley News”, stop by the MIC, room 201 this Fall. I’m Naseeba Saeed.
