Good day, every one!
Allow me to introduce basic meditation skills for Buddha Heart Imprint Method.
Quarter- lotus.
Two legs crossed naturally. It is the easiest sitting gesture;
however, it disables one from sitting long.
Half-lotus.
One leg on top of the other. It doesn’t matter which one is on top.
Full-lotus.
Both legs are on top of each other. This is the most standard sitting position.
This position is suitable for sitting longer.
In the beginning, one might feel quite painful.
As we practice more, it will become easier.
One hour of full-lotus equals to two- hour half lotus.
Diamond Lotus Mudra
Diamond symbolizes the diamond heart that never recedes and with full heart to attain perfect enlightenment.
Lotus symbolizes the noble heart that comes from dirt and not polluted.
While holding this mudra, first, put two palms together; Right thumb on top of the left.
This is one very precious mudra.
We use this mudra to salute to all the Buddhas, bodhisattvas, and our shifu (Chan Master Wujie Miaotien) to represent our most respectful heart.
Then, gradually raise our hands from the center of our chest to our brows;
use the knuckle of the right thumb to touch the middle of two brows.
Afterwards, gradually put down the mudra to the center of our chest and take a bow.
After bowing, change to meditation mudra.
To form meditation mudra, both palms facing up, right hand on top of the left.
The tips of both thumbs slightly touch.
Put the mudra near navel or put slightly on top of our legs.
Put our head right and neck upright; naturally curl our tongue to touch the soft part of our upper palate.
This gesture can agitate the producing of saliva and prevent us from feeling thirsty.
Especially, due to the tongue is connected to the heart, thus, it can help stop wandering thoughts.
The back is straight like a pine.
To sit as stable as a big Chinese temple bell on the floor.
Body and mind remain still.
Relax our body and mind. Put down all the external influencing pull force.
Empty our thoughts. How to do this? Focus on a chakra and besides this task, everything else is void.
While we meditate, we need to focus.
All thoughts are gone. Only concentrate on the chakra.
While we breathe, chi comes in and out through the nose.
Slowly breathe in and out to allow abundant chi to go into the abdomen (deep breathing) and the breathing is silent. Breathing with sound is a symbol of sick breath.
Remain undisturbed by the environment.
Subdue every wandering thought.
Remain still and transcend our habit.
After finish, salute in Diamond Lotus Mudra as well to express thankfulness for the help from all Buddhas and boddhisattvas in meditation.
Find a fixed time and place to meditate.
This is the best way to conquer the discomfort of the legs from sitting cross-legged.
After certain time, you will find that you can sit longer and longer.
Whatever you do, on the bus, driving, watching TV, doing household chores you may practice abdomen breathing (chi in, abdomen grow; chi out abdomen contracts) any time. However, try to breath deep into abdomen first (deep breathing technique).
