Ngati Tamaoho are opposing the development
of new housing blocks on their lands.
The South Auckland based iwi is urging the council
to take notice of their concerns.
If they don't, the iwi say there will be a fight on their hands.
Scarring the land and the home people.
The council have not yet come
to consult with us as the local iwi
about the wahi tapu here.
These new blocks in Karaka have been seven years in the making
for the luxury of those who are cashed up.

There are 442 blocks of land here
and nearly all have been sold off.

identifies 17 places of cultural significance for the local iwi here.
Ngati Tamaoho say the majority of wahi tapu are not listed
in the council's Unitary Plan.
There's an ancient burial place here that hasn't been listed on the map.

the iwi traditionally sourced their food from

Ngati Tamaoho have made a submission about the new Unitary Plan
but they won't know until May
whether their lands will be protected or not.
