Getting to the
Creditors
Meeting
in Jacksonville
Ruff & Cohen, P.A., Bankruptcy Attorneys, Gainesville and Jacksonville
This video is to give you directions to the Creditors' Meeting in
downtown Jacksonville. Here's a map of Jacksonville
and our goal is to get to Federal Building indicated by the
yellow star. Let's simplify the map just
to show the Interstate system. You'll probably be
coming in the Jacksonville either headed east on I-10
or headed north on I-95.
As you come into Jacksonville, I-10
comes to an end, and it splits into I-95
North and South. At the split you
want to go north onto I-95. After the
split the next landmark is a bridge, and it's exactly
1 mile from the split to the bridge.
The exit that we're looking for is Forsyth,
and that's the last exit before the bridge.
There are two other roads that are important to us and those
are West Adams and Monroe. West
Adams is the road you take when you want to get back to the Interstate
to go home. Monroe is important because
the Courthouse is actually at the corner of Monroe and
Julia. So you're going to go north on
I-95 and get off at the Forsyth exit at the very
beginning of the bridge. Forsyth is a one-way
street headed towards downtown Jacksonville. You're going
to go exactly 1 mile until you get to Julia
where you're going to turn left. Julia is a
one-way street headed towards the Federal Courthouse. Now
it's time to start thinking about parking. There is no reserved
parking for the Federal Courthouse, so you have to find some
on-street metered parking. I recommend that you try to arrive
about 15 minutes early in case you have to hunt around for
a parking place. The very best parking of all is on the
left-hand side of Julia in that very first block.
If you're lucky enough to get one of those spots,
then, when you're ready to leave, all you have to do is turn
turn left onto West Adams which will take you out to the interstate
so you can go home. But any of the parking places
in those first two blocks after you turn left onto Julia
are pretty good. Just make sure you bring some quarters with you
to feed the meter. Once you've parked your car
it's time to walk over to the Federal Courthouse. You can only
enter the Courthouse from the side indicated by that red arrow.
Let's zoom in for a better view.
As you can see, although the Federal Courthouse has
an address on "Hogan Street" is really located at the corner
of Julia and Monroe.
Now let's assume you've parked your
car and you're walking over to the Courthouse.
These dotted yellow lines are your footsteps.
Walk down to Monroe, take a right,
walk past the Courthouse until you get
to some steps on the left and walk up the
steps.
At the top of the
steps turn left back towards the building and you'll see a doorway.
Go right in the doorway. There's no choice; you
have to turn right. Walk down the hallway, and you'll get down
to the metal detectors. Don't try to bring in a
a cell phone.
If you do they'll just send you back to your car to
put it away.
At the metal detectors you have to show your picture ID.
You should
also have your Social Security card with you as well.
Get past the Marshals at the metal detectors and it's
the first room on your left.
This is a multi-story building,
but you're not going to get on any of the elevators.
Our room is
on the ground floor. As I said,
it's the first room on your left. Just come on in and have a seat,
and wait for your case to be called.
Now I'm going to show you some pictures of what it looks
like. Let's say you're coming in from Starke. You're going to go
north on 301 and you're going to get onto
I-10 at a little town called Baldwin.
Well, this is what it looks like. You see the McDonald's on the right.
But look at the sign! The sign appears to be pointing to
the left, to Jacksonville. But of course Jacksonville is to
to the right, and so this can be a little confusing. All
all you've got to do is get in the left lane and you'll loop
around and
it'll head you right towards Jacksonville.
Pretty soon you'll see your first sign
for Jacksonville‚ 18 miles.
When you get in much closer you'll see this sign
for 295. Don't confuse this with I-95.
You want to ignore this and head straight under the sign
that says "East to Jacksonville I-10."
You want to follow that white pickup truck, not that
semi.
Now we're starting to see the first of those
signs indicating that I-10 is going to end and
split into I-95 North and South, but
look at the sign! What's wrong with it? Well it shows
shows that "I-95 South" is to the
left and "I-95 North" is to
the right. And of course that's flip-flopped. And the
the reason is that there are some opportunities to peel
off to the left to get onto I-95 South.
and you want to ignore those. Keep your eyes on the
signs and look for "I-95 North."
That's where we want to go.
Here's another one of those signs.
and I actually almost fell for this! So
you want to ignore those "I-95 South" signs,
and the easiest way to do that is ...
...stay in the middle lane. You'll see
that will keep you on the main road, and that's the one
that has all lanes going to "I-95 North." Just
keep in the
in the middle of the road.
[Song] ‚middle of the road, children keep in the middle of the road
Don't you look to the right. Don't you look
to the left. Just keep in the middle of the middle of the
middle of the road in the middle of the road. Keep in
the middle of the middle of the middle of the road, in the middle of the
road...[Song ends].
Well here is the last big split.
You can see that I-95 to the North
is the sign on the left which is correct. And there's a second
opportunity to peel off to I-95 South
on the right.
And of course we're going to go left at
the split
under the "I-95 North" sign.
But, of those 3 arrows, the lane that we want to be
be in now is going to be the arrow on the right. We're still
going to go the left at the split but we're going to be in the right hand of
those 3 arrows. There's no rush. We have plenty of time
to do it.
Those 3 arrows going to go straight
and the then they're all going to curve to the left to go north.
And remember, we're going to stay on the Interstate for
only 1 mile after the split.
Here we are
after the split. The lanes are starting to curve left
to the North. But, you know, there were
3 arrows - now you see 4 lanes!
There's an
an additional lane on the right.
And, you'll see that the very far right lane
is forced to exit onto Forest Street and Riverside
Avenue. We don't want that one. We want the one
next to the right lane. Actually the one that this
photograph was taken from is the correct lane.
And I think we're going to follow the car ahead of us.
Here get our first sighting
of the bridge in the background, and our
our first glimpse of a sign for Forsyth Street.
From looking at the signs, you
might think that the correct lane for getting off on Forsyth
is that far lane on the right.
But that lane is about to disappear and merge into
the lane that we're already in, so this is the right lane
to get off on Forsyth. You want to go directly under
under that sign says "Exit Only," even though it seems
to indicate it's for Monroe.
Here we are at the beginning of the bridge and it's time to
get off the Interstate ‚ and onto Forsyth.
Notice that the exit for Forsyth is "Exit
352B" and you'll
see why that's important in a second. So be in the far right
lane and let's get off at Forsyth.
well this is the right exit, but ...
where's all the signs about Forsyth?
All it says here is
"Exit 352B"
You just have to be confident that this IS the right exit.
As you're getting off the ramp,
you may, in the far distance,
get one peak of the Federal Building. This
is about your only chance to see it from a distance because you're up
so high.
You might see it ... you might not. It'll be
pretty small.
And it'll be just
be a quick glimpse.
This is Forsyth Street coming off the Interstate.
It's a one-way street headed downtown into Jacksonville.
Remember, we're going exactly 1 mile from the
exit off interstate to the place where we're going to turn
left which is Julia Street.
In the distance you can see the EverBank building.
We're getting closer, and as you can tell,
Forsyth is a bit of a crooked road.
As we get closer you see the EverBank
building almost disappears.
In the distance you maybe start to see the word "BUS" because there is
a bus station down there.
And you see that parking garage. That's our target.
We're going to turn left there.
Now you can easily see
the sign for the bus station. And it's a lot easier
to see the parking garage. I don't know if you can see it.
At the very base of the parking garage, there's a green awning.
That's something you'll notice when we get right up
close to it.
Well here we are Julia Street you can see the sign.
One-way to the left. There's that
green awning for the 7Eleven. And in the background
you can see a little bit of the parking garage. This is
where we're going to turn left.
Here we are on Julia Street.
And these are the two blocks of
great parking.
You can see
West Adams (they just call it "Adams" street here). You can see the sign
"One Way" to left. That's how you're going to get back to the Interstate
later on.
On the left there you'll
see that silver car? It has the El Primo
#1 best parking place of all.
When it's time to go home
all that owner has to do, is turn left and head onto
the Interstate.
Any of this parking is very good
though.
It's so close
to the Federal Building.
Look at these
parking meters! You ever seen anything like this? They take
Visa Cards, MasterCard... but no
pennies. So bring some coins.
Here's the second of the two blocks of good parking. You see that
red truck down there?
If we zoom in behind that you'll see a black stripe on the building.
Remember that.
now the red truck is gone
and you could see the black stripe. That is Monroe
The black stripe is actually the bottom
corner of the Federal Building.
You're going to walk down there and turn
right onto Monroe...
and walk by the side of the Federal Building.
After you turn right you'll see the black
stripe on your left.
And at the end of the building you'll see the steps.
Go up the steps and turn left back towards
the building.
Now you'll
see the door that you need to go in. On the right, you'll see
the address of the Courthouse ‚"300 North Hogan."
Just go in that door.
Turn right
and walk down the hallway.
There's the hallway,
and it'll take you down
to the
metal detectors and the Marshals.
There's the metal detector and where the
the Marshals would stand. The reason there's no Marshals there is
because these pictures were taken on a Sunday.
Once you get past the screening
the Creditors Meeting Room is the first room on your left.
Remember, when it's over you want use West Adams
to get back home.
That black car is headed towards the Interstate. You want to follow
that car.
Still on Adams? when you get close to the Interstate you'll see
these signs.
You probably
want the one on the left. South to I-95 and to
I-10 West.
The road will curve to the right, but as it
does you want to get in the left-hand lane so that you can get
to I-95 South and I-10 West.
And you'll be on your way home in no time.
