If
I Loved You As I Love My Money
If I loved you as I love my money I would have love that is as pure as gold.
If I held to you like I hold money All your actions would please my soul.
If health I valued as if it was money; If I kept you like the values I hold;
If love I shared, brought power like money; I could bear your care within my control.
I could settle disputes when we make fuss. I would work for you from up dawn to dust;
Volunteer time, my hands; help in a crush. Nothing would get between the two of us.
If everyone is needed, seen as we see cash, All held as dear, none thrown away like trash,
No one would have quick judgment, or be rash. Then we would never disagree and never clash.
If I could love you, I would then treasure. Life we live would be simply a pleasure.
Love would just multiply pass all measure. We all would win and balance our ledger.
But love is not money, our love is free. The love you give may be nothing you see.
If I give all to you and nothing comes back to me,
Am I worthless, and is love only sheer poverty?
Love, they say, makes this world go around. The money controls my heart; keeps it down.
There is a true peace here that I have found. No treasure knows where my spirit is bound.
