September 18th was the start of the world's first Bachelor degree program in Lule Saami language.
NuorajTV was at the conference that was arranged by the University in Nordland.
Anders Kintel, who is from Drag in Tysfjord, is lecturing.
21 students have registered for the program.
Jørn Robert Knutsen explains why it isn't 22 students who have registered.
I'm thinking about registering for the Bachelor in Lule Saami next year.
Odd Eriksen, you participated in the first lecture. Have you thought about continuing?
No, I think that it was the only lecture that I went to.
We have talked a little with Ellinor Marita Jåma.
Why is this opportunity to study Lule Saami so important?
It is important to build up the status of this line of study, and the program gives a formal competance in a language that is unbelievably important.
What kinds of opportinities will this line of study provide?
There is an ocean of possibilities. In three years time, they are going to be the most attractive Lule Saami to employers. Everyone is going to be after their competence.
I also hope that they will be able to study even more and move on to even higher education.
