Good evening chaps, it’s Day 70 of Startup Bootcamp. Apologies for the darkness of the
video; I’m away from my normal recording space. Anyway, this video goes out to Gorguruga.
I don’t know if I’ve pronounced it right, dude. He asked me to talk about crazy business
ideas I’ve had, and perhaps I’ll take that a little bit further as to what I’d
do if I was to execute those ideas. Anyway guys, please do subscribe to my channel. I
do daily videos about entrepreneurship and stuff that I find interesting.
So crazy business ideas that I’ve had. One of them, what about having a service whereby
people that are cash-rich and time-poor, i.e. people that work in corporate field, bankers,
doctors, lawyers, etc., whatever it might be, doing a lunch delivery service for them.
Let me put myself in the position of a user. I used to work at [inaudible 00:00:46], and
there’d be people there that would work crazy hours, and every day I might have my
places that I’d go and I like to have lunch. That might be a Wasabi, it might be Pret,
it might be KFC, it might be a little Chinese down the road.
So I’m the company now, I find my point of entry into big corporate businesses or
even small to medium businesses, wherever they might be – because the culture is that
you should work through lunch. I find out and I sign off whatever your favorite lunch
places and your favorite meals are. You tick them all off, and then if you are happy, you
could pay a premium for that service whereby on top of the actual cost of the food – let’s
say it comes to £150 per month – you pay our service a further £100 per month for
us being able to deliver your food to you at the same time every day.
I would test that by doing it manually for three or four people, just doing it by hand
and seeing if it could work and if they’ll sign up. Maybe I’ll try 10 people, and if
you can obviously do that on a regular basis, then we’d look at being able to scale it
in some way with building a website that takes the orders, you can deliver it and you pay
a subscription fee and you have people in your troop that go and get the deliveries
and you can find them from local classified listings websites or from job centers or whatever
it might be.
So that’s my first idea: a delivery service for corporate workers that don’t have the
time or the inclination to go get their ideal lunch. We’ll bring it to you, and you pay
us a premium for that service. We brand it, we make it cool, we make it sexy. Might even
engage pretty ladies to do it, for example, to drive people for that service. That’s
my first idea.
Second idea is a really simply more straightforward one. This, as you can see, is the end of my
set of headphones I use sometimes. They always break just here through use. Could someone
– someone – please invent a little piece of plastic that will increase the lifespan
of this, and then sell it or license it to all of the headphone making companies? Because
I know that would save me a great deal of pain because it’s always such a pain in
the *** when I have to stop using my headphone because one of them stops working and then
the other, and I have to get rid of it. So that’s the second idea.
In terms of how to execute that idea, which I’ve no knowledge of the market, I’d probably
call a couple of manufacturers, ask them about how to do it and what to do, call a couple
of lead designers, get some sketches drawn up, get some initial proof of concept because
I really think that’s important – I do know that there’s a need for it because
I’m my own customer – and keep moving forward on that basis. But trying to gather
as much information as you can, make as many minimal mistakes along the way when it’s
at the beginning and it doesn’t really matter that much, and they would be my two ideas.
So dude, I hope this helps. These are two of the ideas that I’ve had. I’m just sharing
them with you. If someone goes out and does them, feel free. I’d love to see them being
developed. I am Deepak Shukla; this is Startup Bootcamp. Thank you for watching. Please subscribe
to my videos. Thanks guys.
