Says Piotr Kawałek
Göricke produced bicycles since the end of the XIX century.
The production of the motorcycles started
at the beginning of the XX century
exactly since 1903
and it was in accordance with the trends of the time.
Prosperity allowed people to change bikes to motorcycles.
Every manufacturer of bicycles hoped
for selling their products successfully.
Now let's talk about this particular model.
What engine does it have? Whats its power?
And some other intresting facts about it.
Engine capacity is less than 200 ccm, and its power 6 hp!
So this is a good motorcycle.
We are looking at the model VI.
as stated by the manufacturer, the maximum speed
was 85 km/h and it is achievable today,
and this motorcycle itself is excellent to ride.
This is one of the historic vehicle, which you can ride with no fear.
Peter, let's go back to the engine.
It has two exhaust pipes with dampers that look like trumpets.
Yes, because sometimes for marketing purposes it is more important
to design an interesting exhaust pipes with a nice sound,
than to dampen the noise.
This motorcycle stil has the original damper
or rather resonant tube with a beautiful sound.
Ther is an empty box at the end of the tube
that makes an interesting rumbling sound.
The motorcycle has a two-stroke engine
with two channels and two exhaust pipes.
The first Göricke motorcycles were foldings.
Folding, what does it mean?
Goricke did not have experience in designing motorcycles engins.
They were unable to produce motorcycles themselves.
So they had to buy parts?
Yes, that’s right.
For this models and for the others
which were produced bay Göricke,
they installed the cheapest components,
and those came from England.
They imported fully equipped Villers engins
with carburetor and throttle lever.
The gearbox is also English.
In this motorcycle we have a three speed Albion.
The electrical installation, which was mounted
in the motorcycle was not the part of the standard equpiment.
It was only made to order.
It included the front headlight and rear light.
The vehicle was produced in 1929
and in that time installation of acetylene
could be exchanged for the installation of electrical lights.
Buyers could choose one of those two versions.
In this motorcycle we have Bosch gnernator
together with front and rear lamp.
With a V-belt?
Yes, with V-belt.
To mount the generator you had to assume the pulley on the crankshaft.
The closure is suitably shaped for the generator drive belt.
This ignition advance control is one of the biggest
that I have ever seen.
You're right.
Here, you can rotate the housing
of the ignition advance by using this lever.
There is no well-defined rotation angle,
so you must be careful not to rotate too much.
This wide range of regulations is an advantage.
The fuel that was sold at that time
didn't have strictly defined amount of octane.
Fuel properties could be accidental.
It was not as it is today 95 or 98 octane.
You could buy fuel in different places, sometimes in pharmacies.
Adjusting ignition timing was suitable
for the selection of optimal conditions
for combustion of the fuel.
You have to adjust the ignition advance on a working and hot engine.
Proper acceleration, engine sound
and the colour of the fumes these are important impressions.
Until you filled it up with the fuel,
you didn't have to use the ignition lever
After changing the fuel or when starting a cold engine it had to be adjusted.
This motorbike was made to a wide range of users.
It was cheap.
All companies producing bicycles,
which began to produce motorcycles,
installed cheap engines and gearboxes.
Final price motorcycle was low,
to sell the vehicles in large quantities.
This is one of those motorcycles.
How many motorbikes like this one
you can find in private collections in Poland?
I know only this one in Poland.
And in Europe there aren't many of them.
This is a very rare model,
because it was not very prestigious.
Expensive-known brands of motorcycles: NSU, BMW,
Opel and others were not scraped even when they were run-down.
But no one kept Göricke in the garage
when was no longer needed. They scraped it.
Therefore, today there are not many of them.
In Europ Goricke can be found in a few museums only.
Today it is the rare brand.
You can to see it, if you come to visit us on trade fair OldtimerbazaR
As long as I have it , I am always ready to show it.
