In this clip, we're going to talk about the proper service procedure in order to remove
and replace a broken CV joint also known as a drive shaft on a front-wheel drive vehicle.
In this step, we're going to talk about the proper service procedure for reinstalling
your ball joint pinch bolt. What I'm going to do is just bend right over underneath the
vehicle. Take the nut off of course. And slide it into the hole. Once I have it started in
the hole, it may be necessary to tap the ball joint bolt through. You're going to take and
tap the bolt all the way through until the shoulder of the bolt head is seated firmly
against the lower portion of the spindle. Now that you have your ball joint bolt tapped
all the way through, you're going to go ahead and take and start on the retaining nut and
spin it down as far as you can hand tight. Now these nuts by design are self locking
and you can only get it on about four or five threads before your ratchet and wrench is
going to be necessary. Once you have your nuts spun down as far as you can by hand,
you can take your socket wrench and wrench and hold the bolt and tighten nut down to
it. They're your typical lefty loosey, righty tighty kind of fasteners. It is a hardened
grade A bolt, so you want to go ahead and put a decent amount of tension on the bolt.
Right there. That is the proper way to install and tighten your ball joint pinch bolt.
