Hey guys, welcome back! Today I'm reviewing the Kat Von D Shade +
Light Eye Contour Quads. I have all 4 quads to show you. So I bought all 4 quads from
Sephora because I'm always looking for more mattes to round out my eyeshadow collection.
I have a TON of shimmer and duochromes but never enough mattes. I thought that having
quads that had 4 matte colors that were color coordinated would be really useful for my
hooded eyes. Plus I love the Kat Von D Shade + Light Eye Palette. So I thought I would
love all of these quads. The packaging is really cute. It's made of hard plastic. It's
pretty small, as you can see. It fits in my hands and it fits in my smallest Makeup Bag.
What I don't like about it is this is as far as it opens. Each of the quads has four shades
and you're supposed to apply the Base shade from lashline to browbone and then you're
supposed to apply the Highlight to the inner lid and under the brows. Then you're supposed
to apply the Contour shade into the crease and finally you Define by using the Define
shade at the lashline. So that's how all 4 of these quads work. After loving the original
Shade + Light Eye Palette, I thought that these would be amazing. And I was a little
surprised that they were a little difficult to work with. So I did looks with all 4 of
them, as well as swatches. And I've used them several times. And I'm going to go ahead and
show you the Sage quad first. This is the Sage quad. It's my least favorite of the 4
quads. I thought that these colors were extremely unflattering on my skintone and coloring.
The Base shade was very dark and yellow. The Define shade was not the easiest to blend.
The Contour shade was easier to work with than the Define shade and the highlight was
nice. Overall I really didn't like how the this one worked and I will definitely be returning
it. Next we have the Smoke Quad. This is the one that I thought I would love the most.
I love greys and they look gorgeous with blue green eyes like mine. I love the fact that
this is kind of a cool toned palette. And you really don't have enough cool toned palettes
on the market. I had trouble blending out the base shade in this quad, which surprised
me. The contour and highlight were great. The define shade didn't really give me any
trouble. I love the colors a lot in this one but I'm honestly not sure if I'm going to
keep it because it was just so much work to blend all the colors. Especially when I think
about this in comparison to the Honest Beauty Smoky Greys Trio that I recently did a tutorial
with and reviewed. It's just disappointing to me that this took a lot of work to blend
the colors. Next we have the Rust quad. In this quad the base shade is much lighter than
the other 3 quads. I thought it was pretty flattering on my skintone. The rust contour
was one of the easiest shades to work with. The highlight was really nice and the definer
was ok though i'm not usually a fan of browns. I'm gonna go ahead and return this one because
I feel like the warm colors in the Shade + Light Eye Contour Palette are similar enough
for me even though they're not exact dupes because I don't wear these colors very often.
Last but not least is the Plum Quad. The plum quad was my favorite. I felt like the colors
in this quad were the easiest to work with. The Most difficult shade in this quad was
the definer. The contour was great and I like the highlighter a lot so I am absolutely going
to be keeping this one. So overall I found these quads to be a little bit disappointing.
Like I mentioned a couple times, I really love the Kat Von D Shade + Light Eye Contour
Palette. I thought it was really easy to work with and I expected these quads to be easy
too. They just weren't. I feel like they were harder to blend than the Shade + Light Palette.
They kick up a lot of powder when you run your brush across them. Although I Didn't
feel like there was as much fallout from the midtone and deep shades, the lighter shades
seemed prone to a little bit. I found that surprising. As a hooded eye gal, I really
love the concept of the quads, where all 4 colors work together seamlessly so you can
create a really nice look or pair them with duochromes, which I really love to do. In
practice I really didn't experience that with these quads. I feel like it took a lot of
work for most of them to get the colors to work together. For me the easiest quad to
work with was the Plum Quad, followed by Rust, Smoke and Sage. To me these are definitely
not must haves. I'm going to be returning 2, possibly 3 of them. I'm going to keep Plum
for sure. I may or may not keep Smoke. I haven't decided yet. If you love these colors and
you're willing to work with them to get them to blend you'll probably love the quads. If
you have a lot of mattes you may already have dupes in your collection and you may just
want to pass on these. Anyway what do you think of the Kat Von D Shade +Light Quads?
