The Red Cross are used to working on big events. They know how they work
they know how to fit into the system, they know the licensing procedures
they know what is required. You know with the Red Cross that you are getting
a very professional and extremely contemporary and updated service
We have grown together in this, we have used the Red Cross since year one
we are now in our sixth year and we have watched the facilities
and the professionalism increase over those years and been very impressed
we would not dream of going anywhere else
The range of events the Red Cross would cover would be anything from
very large scale events which would be T in the Park, the TT races
in the Isle of Man, Ascot right the way down to small village fetes.
We have 12,500 people here and we have a full field hospital
that replicates a small A & E which is staffed with a doctor and 2 nurses
There are 30 first aiders here on shift, permanently, 24/7.
There are a number of posts around the site and mobile patrols
in order to pick people up and, if required, take them to the field hospital
When I went to the first aid tent and they said it was serious
so they go, I will take you to hospital, and I was like, that is going to be ages
but they said no, we have one on site. I have a lot of respect for the Red Cross
now because I had heard about it before and I did not really know what they did
but now I see they do really good work here.
We had a serious incident where some young people in a teepee
ignored the instructions not to use gas to cook and there was an explosion
I arrived on the scene to find we had two severe casualties
They reduced the harm suffered to these people by their extremely prompt
and very professional action
All of a sudden your training comes in and you just get on with it
although it seems a long time passing, we had everyone treated and off site
within 20 minutes.
They took them into care in the field hospital until the air ambulance arrived
and then they were moved to the main A & E hospital in Inverness
We work in partnership with the emergency services
both the police, the fire service and the ambulance service at events like this
Bear in mind that we are not a large festival with endless budgets
so they very much try and tailor what they do to what we require
but at the same time not cutting any corners.
I have never had any complaints whatsoever, always been very happy
If you have got an event to cover, give the Red Cross a ring.
