Hi! I’m Sharon Jurd from Sharon Jurd Events and today I want to talk to you about
how do you keep going when you want to give up.
We’ve all been there. It’s just all too hard sometimes. It’s not going the right way.
You’re not getting the customers you want, the bank balance
looks crap, you just want to throw it in and go,
“I’ve tried, I’ve started this business and it’s not working. I should just
go back and work for somebody else.” We’ve all been there. But that doesn’t mean
you need to give up. What you need to do is maybe change. Change what you’re doing.
Have a real good look at your business and the foundations around how you
started that business because if you haven’t got those foundations right you
can’t grow the business. It’s like having an unstable house; it will just
collapse
And what you need to do is make sure that you’ve got all the systems and processes in
place. You need to know who your market is. I’ve had a funeral director
said, “Well, I want to market everyone because everyone is going to die.”
Well, no. You don’t market to everyone. A hairdresser doesn’t market to
everyone who has hair.
It’s about narrowing that niche down to who you want to market to and making
sure that you’re talking to the right people.
The other thing is look within yourself. Are you getting out there enough? Are you
talking to enough people? Are you letting them know about your story and about your
business?
How are you communicating your message? Because people want to know your why, they
don’t want to know about your product. They want to know why
you’re doing this.
And they will come along with the story around why you want to change the world.
If you can get that message out there quite clearly then people will come
along on your journey
and buy off you and support you and refer you.
When the going gets tough what you need to do is take
a moment,
take a deep breath, have some really quiet time. Some people go and book a
motel room overnight if you could afford to do that and just really clear their
mind and
think about the reason you started the business in the first place.
What were those reasons they may be more than one? Was it to change
people’s lives?
Was it to help your family? Was it to take yourself out of your comfort
zone and expand your own horizons? Really get clear on what those reasons
were that you started that business and how you wanted that business to look being
successful. And once you have that clear in your mind,
the way or how to do it will come to you but you have to have that
real quiet time. It’s taking a day out of your business, out of that noise, that clutter,
the emails everybody at you and really getting clarity around what you
want to achieve.
Then you focus on the things or the actions that will get you to where
you want to go.
Look at the things you’re doing in your day
and if they’re not getting you to where you want to go then they’ve got to stop
being done. And I know I’ve got to do accounts and some
other logistical things in the business, a lot of paperwork. But really
spend the majority of your time getting to where you want to go. All we have to do
is say, “What am I doing right now? Is it getting me to my end result? Yes or no?”
It’s as easy as that. If it’s a yes, do more of it. If it’s a no, you try and
delegate it or spend less time on it. And then you’ll start to see some
results because we get so bogged down with all of the noise and distraction and
we never achieve what we’re really set out to achieve.
So take that time for yourself and have some quiet time.
Get back to doing the things that will get you
the end results and keep going because most people give up three quarters of the way
through at anything that they do. They actually just get on that hump
and if they just push over that three quarter mark they’ll actually start to see the
results. Most people give up way, way too soon.
There are plenty of times in my business where I wanted to give up and I
just had to keep pushing through, and pushing through those barriers and
if you have enough self-belief in your self, your product and your business
you will make it. So keep going and don’t give up.
