In order to ensure
are fully confident about the services they may require
and get the best value for money we at Blockbusters like to keep our customers fully informed of any changes in the drainage industry.
On the 1st Ocober 2011 new government legislation came into force which means that water companies have taken responsibility of some sewer pipes currently owned by the homeowner.
This new legislation is called The Transfer of Private Sewers and it may actually benefit homeowners by reducing their liability.
So how does this affect you?
If you have your own drainage system, then you used to be responsible for the part of the drainage system that goes out to the public sewer here, but now you will only be responsible to your boundary.
If you have a terraced house or a semi-detached house like we have here,
typically you’ve been responsible until you share the drain with a neighbour here and then you share that responsibility with all of your neighbours
all the way until it hits the main sewer in the road.
Now, since the change as soon as it goes shared here, the water company now has that responsibility.
If you live in an apartment or a block of flats like this, you will still be responsible for the drainage right out until it hits the boundary of the building.
So with this new legislation in mind, what should you do if you get a blockage or a drainage problem?
Bearing in mind that most blockages occur internally or within your property boundary, we are best placed to come out quickly and resolve any drainage or plumbing problem.
We also provide free plumbing and drainage advice and we can refer you to free insurance mediation so no matter what the issue you can be confident that blockbusters will be able to help.
