Hi, I'm Stan De Freitas, Mr. Green Thumb. Zinnias are probably one of the most popular
annual flowering plants that we have. Why, because it's got that beautiful daisy-like
flower that gets to be, well, two, three inches across. They come in a multitude of different
color combinations of yellows, and reds, and oranges, and they're very vibrant. They don't
have too many problems. Do make sure that it gets usually some early morning light so
you can kind of dry off some of these leaves, so you don't get into some of the mildew problems
that can occur. Make sure when you plant it that you improve the soil; add some extra
peat, extra cow. Make sure it's got some perlite maybe even, to help improve the drainage.
If you plant these, normally you're going to put them in large groupings, maybe fifty,
a hundred, maybe two hundred plants in a planting, and you'll have a real nice zinnia bed. Zinnias
do require a good fertilization. Remember they're an annual. They're going to live,
they're going to flower, they're going to die; all within one season, so you've got
to be prepared to plant more. For On Gardening I'm Stan De Freitas, Mr. Green Thumb.
