Kevin: Every year we try to stop by the Pace Edwards booth, because they always have something
new and cool to check out. Well, I found Jim Gedney again, to bring us up to speed on what
you guys brought out new, this particular cover. What have you got going on?
Jim: Well, as you know Kevin, Pace Edwards has always been the undisputed leader in retractable
truck bed covers. We feel that the cornerstone of our success over the years has been new
products. So we're very excited to launch the all new Full-Metal JackRabbit. It has
the same benefits and features of the original JackRabbit, except that it's all metal. Instead
of a vinyl finish we have a powder-coated aluminum finish, quite a bit thicker, quite
a bit more industrialized. Benefits and features, again similar to the JackRabbit, it's a retractable
truck bed cover. It's convenient, it's practical, it gets out of your way quick, lock points
at every 12 inches.
Kevin: That's cool.
Jim: Separate lock and latch, so you can open and close it without using the key. The locking
system is all offset to the driver's side just like the original JackRabbit, so you
never have to get in the bed to open or close the cover.
Kevin: Tell me about the material that this cover is made out of. It's the Full-Metal
Jackrabbit, which is a great name by the way. What's it made out of?
Jim: It's made out of extruded aluminum, powder-coated extruded aluminum.
Kevin: So it's light enough, where it's maybe a one man job to install?
Jim: Yes, absolutely. In fact, it's a change we've made to the original Jackrabbit. A pretty
dramatic change that migrates over to this new cover, we've reduced the installation
in the original Jackrabbit by 75% in the amount of hardware that the jobber needs to install
it, as well as time, which makes for the jobbers and installers, it makes their labor when
selling Pace Edwards, profitable.
Kevin: So how long does it take to install one of these? What do you say?
Jim: Fifteen minutes.
Kevin: Fifteen minutes?
Jim: Yes, we've shaved it from an hour down to 15 minutes.
Kevin: And that's both for the original JackRabbit, and the new Full-Metal JackRabbit?
Jim: Yep, it applies to both.
Kevin: Very cool.
Jim: The difference between this piece and the standard JackRabbit is this is all metal.
The canister size of the Full-Metal JackRabbit is smaller. We've shrunk it by an inch in
depth and three inches in length.
Kevin: And the canister is where it rolls into.
Jim: Exactly, exactly. And that will migrate over to the original JackRabbit, come the
first of the year.
Kevin: So tell me what applications do you have these available for?
Jim: Well, Kevin, we actually fit some trucks as early as 1966, and virtually all of the
current trucks.
Kevin: Wow. All right, so is this a prototype unit or can somebody buy one of these today?
Jim: No, absolutely they can buy one today. We're producing, taking orders and shipping,
as we speak. This is not a prototype.
Kevin: And where can they get them?
Jim: They can get them at just about any accessory retailer.
Kevin: Right on. Well, a very innovative and neat cover that will keep your tools and whatever
you want secure. It's easy to use, it's going to last you a long time. It sounds like a
winner from Pace Edwards.
