We have invited Casa Patas, the leading flamenco troops in Madrid,
to lead a masterclass with our students.
"Start with the left."
It is a very special opportunity for students to
engage
with some of the best flamenco artists in Spain. Flamenco
is something that's very hard to explain, you know, in a textbook or, you
know, in words, but when you see it, it's unmistakable.
Flamenco is
a popular folk dance that emerged
in that the eighteenth century that represented a fusion
of cultures who gathered in Spain and looked for
a way of expressing the
passions
and oppression that they felt.
Flamenco is as mental an
experience as it is a physical experience. You really have to think
about what you're doing to keep track of the
rhythms and the counts and the directions that you're moving.
Suffolk students definitely have rhythm and flamenco helps take their natural rhythm
and blow it through the roof.
