I’ve been a lobster harvester for 35 years.
You know, fish harvesters here on the Magdalen Islands
working in partnership with their association, the Association des pêcheurs propriétaires des Îles, and Fisheries and Oceans Canada
have implemented a number of measures in recent years to protect lobster.
We’ve done this because we want future generations to be able to earn a living from the lobster industry as we do today.
So all of us together—harvesters, fishery officers, and the general public—
we do our share to make sure this industry, a tradition on the Magdalen Islands,
will still be here for the generations to come.
The resources of the sea are a collective heritage of inestimable value and we are all responsible for their protection.
Unfortunately, every year, illegal acts endanger the survival of fish stocks.
Since maritime Québec is an immense area, we need you to be our eyes and ears.
