"Pool Trick Shots / Fundamentals: Rack and Break
Hi. I'm Andy ""The Magic Man"" Segal. I'm here at Williard Billiards in Hoboken, New
Jersey doing some trick shots and pool instruction, so if you ready, let's get started. All right,
so let's discuss the first thing you have to do with racking the balls in 8 ball. It's
pretty straight forward, you just put all the balls inside the rack. The 8 ball goes
in the middle and a lot of people, sometimes they like to mix up the solids and stripes.
That doesn't really matter as long as the 8 ball is in the middle. Now some places,
as you can see here, we have the outline of the rack. Most places wont have that, but
they will have a spot here. The head ball goes right on the spot and then the important
thing is to make sure that the front few balls are touching each other. Sometimes when you
rack it, the balls rolls off, you want to bring it back. Now when you're breaking, the
Q ball's going to be on the other side of the table. You want to shoot directly into
the head ball. Some players try and break like with a glancing blow like this, but the
balls aren't going to spread out as well if you hit it with a glancing blow. You want
to try and hit it direct and solid, so where ever you break from behind the line, whether
it's this angle, this angle, this angle, you always want to come directly into the head
ball. If you're breaking from the side, you want to come in this way. If you break from
the middle, you want to come in this way. That gives the most [inaudible] into the rack
and spread the balls out the best, and that's a good solid break by hitting the ball to
center.Had problem understanding one word.
