iPad setup
Your iPad can be a great tool for teaching out in the field. In this series of videos,
we will walk you through the steps needed to turn your iPad into a top-notch reference
for client questions.
Let's begin. After removing the plastic wrap, lift off the top cover. Your iPad will be
on top with an instruction booklet, sync cable and power adapter underneath. You can use
the sync cable to charge with either the USB connection on your computer or with the power
adapter using any power outlet.
Remove the protective cover from the iPad. You won't need to keep the cover.
The connections are on the sides of the iPad. On the top you'll find the power button and
the headphone jack. On the right side is the volume control and a silent switch. The sync
connection is on the bottom with the speaker. If you turn the iPad over, you'll find the
rear camera.
The iPad comes with a charged battery, but the first step is to connect it to a computer
to set it up. Before you connect, you must have an updated version of iTunes on the computer
you'll use with your iPad. iTunes is a free software application from Apple necessary
to organize digital media and to manage software programs and other processes on your new iPad.
If you already own an Apple iPhone or iPod, you are already familiar with the process.
Download iTunes from Apple and update to the latest version. The iPad needs iTunes 10 in
order to sync.
With iTunes launched, connect your iPad using your sync cable. The iPad will be recognized
and appear on the left bar. Screens will prompt you and guide you throughout your setup procedure.
During the setup, you'll be asked for an iTunes account. You can use your UAEX email address
to register your account. When you're asked for a credit card, you can use your P-Card
or your personal card. You will not be charged unless you make a purchase through the App
Store.
Once the iPad has finished the setup and sync procedures, you are ready to disconnect. At
this point, you need to set up your wireless or 3G connection in order to access the internet.
