'Sup, you beautiful ***?
Hope you're having a fantastic Tuesday,
welcome back to the Philip DeFranco Show and let's just jump into it.
And the first thing I want to talk about today is,
the huge news today, and that is Vault 7.
And the best place to start with Vault 7 is,
What the hell is Vault 7?
Well, according to WikiLeaks, it is the largest intelligence publication ever leaked.
And today they released Part 1 with many more to be released soon.
And a big thing moving forward to understand is,
I will be talking about the biggest stories that are known now,
but more stories are going to come out from this.
So the question:
They responded:
And sorry for laughing at the end of that.
They have essentially "game-ified" journalism.
And I'm not saying that as a negative. It makes sense.
So let's jump into this monster.
So the whole thing is called Vault 7. What was released today is being called Year Zero.
Year Zero is reportedly comprised of:
WikiLeaks claims that:
And one of those who came in possession of this sent portions of it to WikiLeaks.
And if this press release is to be believed, whoever possesses the entire collection
would have the entire hacking capacity of the CIA.
But keep in mind, that's the information we're starting with.
Other key standouts so far:
Allegedly the US Consulate in Frankfurt, Germany is actually a covert CIA hacker base.
And they say the reason for that is, once the hacker is there with their diplomatic passport, their state department cover,
Then there are claims that the CIA collects and maintains...
And this is potentially used not only to offer more ways to attack a single target,
but also as a way to "misdirect attributions,"
or in other words, give the CIA the ability to false flag attack.
Like if for some reason we wanted to hack the Dutch, but we wanted to make it look like the Chinese did it,
we were leaving fingerprints that say the Chinese did it.
And the components covered in this portion of the report included:
And, of course, this was a big standout for a lot of people for the obvious reason.
There have been allegations for a very long time now, the intelligence community said yes, the Russians did hack our election.
So now you have people taking this leak, this information about false flag attacks.
So now you have people saying, well, how do we know that the CIA didn't hack the DNC
and they just made it look like it was the Russians?
Maybe they did it, they made it look like the Russians did it,
they're gonna say that the Russians did it, how do we know?
To that argument, others have pointed out,
well, if the CIA did that, they are not necessarily anti-Trump.
What would the point be of hacking the DNC to make it look like the Russians were doing it
to make Donald Trump look like he was connected in some way,
but then still, for months, release damaging information on the DNC and Hillary Clinton?
To me that really doesn't make sense unless your argument is that there were people inside of the CIA
that were actually Pro-Trump, and to make it look like there wasn't a US conspiracy against Hillary Clinton,
they tried to just throw it to the Russians.
And then that took on a life of its own, turning into the Trump-Russia connection.
That makes more sense, but understand, that and the other option, we're still talking about theories.
Then there's the specific mention of the Samsung Smart TV, which,
I'm so interested to see if this is going to affect their stock price.
This involves what they call 'Weeping Angel,' reportedly:
and transforms them into covert microphones.
Reportedly, this attack against Samsung Start TVs was coordinated along with MI5 From the UK.
If your thought process here is, well, if I'm watching TV, I'm not talking, what's it really gonna pick up?
Reportedly:
Also allegedly, as of October 2014:
So the new cars and trucks that we hear stories every now and then about hackers working to be able to control them.
And there are debates on this topic as whether this was nefarious or not.
Some arguing that this would allow the CIA to engage in nearly undetectable assassinations.
But there are also people defending research like this,
saying, you need to know how someone could do this, so that you can protect your people from these kinds of attacks.
Then there are claims that the CIA hoarded vulnerabilities.
And what that means is when the CIA finds an exploit, they find a problem with an Apple or an Android phone, let's say.
The government stated they would disclose vulnerabilities of those devices to the people that make them so they can fix them.
And the reasons for that is, the thinking is if the CIA can figure this out, so can foreign enemies.
And also there's the business side. If your devices are hack-able or they're perceived as easily hack-able, you might lose market share.
But there are documents that say the CIA has not been doing this,
and even hoarding the exploits so that they can use them.
Also, I know a lot of the information that I'm talking about and will talk about, it's very alarming,
but I do wanna take a moment
just to appreciate the nerd-dom of the hackers involved in all of this.
Especially whoever it was that named an Android exploit
Dugtrio,
like the ***' Pokemon.
It's way better than whatever bro named his weaponized tool Creatine.
But we'll move on.
And on top of the concern already that the CIA knows about these vulnerabilities,
they are not reporting it to the companies,
something that Edward Snowden and many others have now pointed out,
if the documents being released are to be believed, and there's more and more confirmation coming as time goes on,
it appears that not only are they discovering exploits, but they are buying exploits.
As you can see here for iOS exploits, 'came with purchase,' 'purchased by NSA.'
So not only are they hoarding, but they are paying to keep US software unsafe.
And then, in cases like the exploit called Earth/Eve,
they gave the exploit for unsafe US software to the Brits.
And for those asking, why is this dangerous? To repeat Edward Snowden:
The documents also seem to show that the CIA has the ability to- actually, this is a big deal,
And they were able to do this because they're hacking the phone, and they're getting the audio and the text
on the screen before it's encrypted.
Also, they reportedly have the ability to use that smartphone as a way to get a geo-location on you,
as well as activate the camera and microphone for that phone.
And that's where we are right now. Most likely we're going to have more bombs drop in the next few hours, next few days.
Some sources saying that the information coming out will be bigger than the Snowden leaks.
And I'd love to know your thoughts on this story. Does it freak you out? Is it something you always expected?
Do you think it makes sense that they're leaving vulnerabilities in some of your electronics open
so they can use those to potentially "keep America safe,"
even though by leaving those holes open, they leave you vulnerable to other attackers?
Because personally, that's the biggest deal to me. They are not informing the companies that there are exploits out there
that could be manipulated by other people because they wanna use it.
And so even if they're not using the exploits to spy on Americans,
they're leaving it open so maybe other countries could.
I'd love to know your thoughts here.
And the other story I wanted to briefly mention was Trumpcare.
The Obamacare replacement that Republicans have now thrown out there.
And wow, people on the left and the right were not happy.
Many who liked Obamacare, who liked the Affordable Care Act, worry that they're gonna lose their insurance.
And many who hated it looked at the documents and said,
This is Obamacare Lite.
Sure, this still includes pre-existing conditions, which thank you,
but also this version includes a lot of the things that made Obamacare bad for me.
It also doesn't allow us to go to other states to buy insurance,
which Donald Trump, time and time again, said we could.
And before I get to Donald Trump's comments about this,
I gotta talk about- ohh.
US Representative Jason Chaffetz,
who, when on CNN, was defending this health care bill, he said this:
We're getting rid of those things that people said that they don't want.
And you know what? Americans have choices. And they've gotta make a choice.
And so maybe,
rather than getting that new iPhone that they just love, and they wanna go spend hundreds of dollars on that,
maybe they should invest in their own health care.
They've gotta make those decisions themselves.
Okay, so I say this with the utmost respect, but
*** you, you ***.
Hey, you know who I should speak down to? People who work for a living and make less money than me.
How dare you talk down to the middle class like that, you arrogant ***?
One, the cost comparison doesn't make sense.
You're talking about several hundred dollars for a tool that connects you to the entire world,
and the thousands and thousands of dollars a year that it costs to have health insurance,
not even including how much it costs to then pay for things even when you have health insurance.
And two, maybe you're not aware of this,
but there are a whole class of Americans who bust their *** just to try and get by, and they still don't have enough money.
There are people just trying to keep their head above water,
to make sure that they and their family eat, that they can pay rent,
and that may not make sense to you.
There are estimates that Jason has a net worth of $750,000 to millions and millions.
And that's without even talking about how much stuff can cost even when you have insurance.
And since this video came out, Jason tried to walk back the statement,
saying that he was just merely trying to say there's personal responsibility, he worded things poorly.
But come on. Just look again at the way that he said it:
So maybe, rather than getting that new iPhone,
*slow* that new iPhone
*slower* thaaaat newwwww iPhooooone
*normal* that they just love, and they wanna go spend hundreds of dollars on that,
What disdain he seems to have of the lower and middle class.
And so that's just me talking about what he said, not the individual mandate, and a lot of the specifics in this story.
And the reason for that is, Trump and others are saying
that this is not the version the American people are going to get. Trump initially tweeting:
So the argument there is, these are the building blocks.
We have our skeleton, let's go from there. Later tweeting:
And so that's where I have to leave that one. I will, though, link in the description down below,
House GOP has released the American Health Care Act in its entirety.
I'm going to be looking through it as well. I planned on doing it today, but then the Vault 7 stuff happened.
So that's where I'm gonna end things today. Of course, whether it be with this story or the first one, I'd love to know your thoughts today.
And I'm fascinated to hear from you because I know that is a lot to unpack.
