I think there are a couple of sessions at the national conference that are
very very
am important and very valuable to hear what presidents have to say.
The first is a session on innovative presidencies.
I think it's very difficult to be
a president now in higher education,
because there's the balance of trying to keep the mission of your
institution---your liberal arts institution, your woman's institution,
historically black college---continue to drive the mission of your institution.
But you're brought in to be a change agent. You're brought in to try to think
new and innovatively and try to re-craft what your institution looks like.
So how do you balance those two things is really important. So being able to
hear a set of presidents that
that have done that very effectively. They have been able to come in and keep
the core mission of their institution, no matter what it is. But then being able
to come in
and change some the inner workings at the institution
and how people on the outside see it. I think is really really important.
The second one is one of our keynotes:
Austan Goolsbee,
who was in the Obama administration at one point. To hear him talk about
the intersection between higher education public policy.
I think it's been a while since we've had that discussion
on how those two sectors intersect and interact with each other.
So hearing someone who is a brilliant man, a brilliant economist,
someone who knows
how higher education drives the economy and the importance of that
and how the public sector works
together I think is going to be very
valuable session for people to be able to to hear.
