Hi, today i'm going to talk a little bit about the Mississippiana
collection at the University of Southern Mississippi.
The Mississippiana collection contains materials relating to the history of
Mississippi and Mississippians.
These collections are going to include materials about the history of the state,
relating to the various towns, the various cities.
We also
have things related civil war in Mississippi,
and these are going to be contemporary books as well as books going back to the the eighteen-
sixties.
Religion, we have a large collection of books about religion in
Mississippi.
These range from the history of Catholics on the gulf coast,
to the history of baptist in the state, as well as the more unusual aspects of religion in the state
including the videos and books of
Estes Perkel, who was a
a filmmaker in the sixties and a preacher in the sixties, and leading up to the
current day with the American Family Association which is based out of Tupelo
Fiction, in our fiction collection we're going to have all the regulars would you expect,
the greatest hits including William Faulkner
and various other Mississippi writers,
but we're also going to include some unknow and unique writers, including
Carl Corly. He was one of the first
gay pulp writers to use his own name.
We also have the books of Con Sellers who
wrote everything
from Vietnam and Korean War novels,
to romance novels,
to girly magazine type of publications and articles.
We have the materials relating to history of the university.
these are going to include year books going back to the 'teens,
a handbook for women, how women respuesta act of nineteen-sixties,
and football programs going back to the nineteen-fifties.
These materials, and many more, comprise the Mississippiana collection here at the
University of Southern Mississippi,
