My name is Scott Kneller, I'm from Jindabyne New South Wales,
I'm twenty-four years old and I race ski cross So ski cross is like; it's like motor
cross on skis. So four, four competitors race at the time through a series of berms, jumps,
turns and then the first two to the finish line progress to the next round, all the way
up until the final four. It's not like traditional Alpine where it's
a racer against the timers. It's four competitors racing head to head and yeah there's a few
crashes involved but it's pretty good to, pretty good to watch. It's a sport that
offers everything for me; it's been able to combine my Alpine skiing and my love of
sort of free ride and I was in the sport for maybe a year and a half before I made my debut
at the Olympics so it was a relatively quick transition but I've never looked back.
The Olympics are very unique experience. I, I was yeah obviously young at the last games.
It's such a cool thing to be a part of and you walk through into that opening ceremony
and it's just so overwhelming and, and met every one of my expectations and it's sort
of all the hard work it's just everything seems worth it when you get to the Olympics.
Obviously we have this facility here in Jindabyne which is ideal for me. Obviously been so close
to home you can train in the gym and obviously so close to the snow fields so it's ideal
and then in Canberra we've been doing a lot of biomechanics stuff type stuff and we've
still to start gate with the sensors on the handles to measure velocity and direction
so it's, it's all about putting technology and putting it all together, the technology
and our knowledge of the sport and trying to gain some advantage over our competitors.
The AIS provided such an amazing facility for us to do that so yeah we're in a very
good position to excel. We're producing some incredible athletes and we have all these
facilities with the AIS to produce world class athletes and we did. Considering how small
our nation is and how little snow we have here it's, it's quite remarkable how we
do on a world stage. Going into Sochi we had so many medal opportunities; it's quite
remarkable for a country that is predominantly summer based. Everything's slowly falling
into place with um I'm skiing really well and I'm definitely fit and strong and it's
in a good place so I'm looking forward to posting some solid results at the games.
