One of the wonderful things about straw bale is you can be real creative with it. Like
I said earlier, if you want to shape a wall around it, make a big curve, you could make
a big curve wall and plaster over it. You can stick things like bottles, glass bottles
in it and plaster around it. And I’m kind of going to give you a little bit of an idea
with this. You would just actually find a solid place in the bale that you could stick
the bottle through that would stay solid. And then you would just plaster up around
the bottles until you finish it out on all sides. And I don’t have enough plaster to
show you but…kind of just play around it. And you would finish and you would take a
sponge and clean it all as soon as you can because the way that it dries is the way it’s
going to stay-believe me- the concrete doesn’t want to move at all later- sanding or anything.
So you want to finish it the way you want it. You can use a grout and grout over the
concrete to finish the bottles a little nicer looking if you want. It’s time consuming,
but it does look a little bit nicer. But again, you’ve got to keep the grout cleaned off
the bottles so that it doesn’t look horrible later. And the whole idea of the bottles is
adding some creativity- adding some round or some shape in the glass. And then the color,
the beautiful colors. The greens, the blues. When it gets sun from the other side, if you
put them in a smaller wall, you can really see the light shine through and show the bottles
off. So be creative in your straw bale home.
