Visit to Scotiabank Finance Centre by girls and boys from the AFLATOUN Programme on 31st May 2012
The relationship between Scotiabank and El Salvador Plan started in 2010,
when they supported our social and finance education project, Aflatoun.
To bolster the support that the bank provides to our Plan,
a visit to the Bank's Finance Centre was organised
to enable boys and girls
from nine Schools in the La Libertad department
to visit and learn how a bank functions and operates.
During this visit they learned many things.
They increased their understanding
and got to know in practice what a financial institution does.
They visited and got acquainted with different departments of the bank,
they were welcomed by the respective managers
and, at the end of the visit, they came to the meeting room
where the Bank's President personally welcomed them.
One of the fundamental objectives of Scotiabank
is to teach the general public and young people the importance of saving
and, in this respect,
it matches the philosophy of the Aflatoun Plan Programme
concerning educating and creating a culture of enterprise
and instilling this awareness in them,
so that they start saving
and also begin to manage their own money.
In turn, we at Scotiaban, feel satisfied
with the work we have been organising
supporting the El Salvador Plan
with their finance and social education programme, Aflatoun.
We know that it is changing our children.
It is important that they become aware of issues such as saving,
dealing with money,
so they become responsible citizens in terms of their financial management
and also develop a financial sense that is equally responsible.
Therefore, we feel happy, very satisfied and proud
to be part of this project.
Thanks to the questions I could ask I was able to learn things I didn't know
and they explained very fully everything a bank does.
Well, I think it was perfect because we learned more
both about Scotia Bank and about finance,
and about how human and social resources function
as well as other aspects of banking.
Personally, I think that the programme that is being developed is excellent
and I would like other institutions like Scotiabank
to join this effort for the sake of all young people.
