Career Services at Stevenson University
offers a unique approach to students. Career Architecture
involves three different elements. One is personal direction,
and I think for students that are first coming into the University
that this is a very important foundation in which students become engaged with
really beginning to understand more about what motivates them
and those kinds of things are important both in the classroom,
and also as they consider future career options.
When we get to the second element of discipline expertise for our students,
we facilitate the non-credit internships
that are available to our students that many employers are looking for within
the community.
That, in addition to part-time jobs as well as volunteer
opportunities, are all available to our students through our 24/7
online recruiting system called Stevenson Career Connections.
The third piece of what we provide our students with regards to Career
Architecture, is what we call professional know-how.
So how do you pull all this information together?
You have this increased self-awareness knowing where your strengths are,
and how those strengths can be applied to industry of interests,
and then you are identifying organizations
that share a similar values set as yours. So that's kind of the career framework that
we
use here at Stevenson University. It's important that freshman get engaged in
the Career Architecture process
early on. Although you may think that career
is the primary outcome after four years, it actually begins the first year that
they're here
Stevenson.
