Block stalls Block stalls are when you stall right up on
point of your nose or tail. You're balancing on a tiny part of the board
so the trick is to dig your tip into the snow to stop it from moving.
Try them on the flats first. Watch how I rotate up into the stall. This makes it easier to
dig your tail into the snow rather then trying to go straight up over the end.
While digging your tail in, extend your back leg and grab with your front hand. This will
keep your body weight tucked in tight to your nose and help to balance.
You can grab Nose or Mute or it's easiest to grab slightly in front of your front binding
like this. While on the flat ground try it on both your
nose and tail. When moving it's easiest to do block stalls
on a hill or bank on the side of the runs. In general the steeper the bank the easier
it'll be. You still need to dig your nose or tail into
the snow, to balance without moving or slipping out.
To tail block head up a bank on the side of the run and just as your running out of speed
pop a 180 to your tail digging, it into the snow. Balance by grabbing, holding your weight
close to your nose. To nose block, head up a similar bank but
this time it's more a rolling up motion while sticking your nose into the snow. Grab nose,
mute or in-between. Balance as long as possible then pop or ride
smoothly out.
