K.P.: This piece of artwork, we're looking at here is titled "The Brown Sisters" from
1975 to 2011. It's by Nicholas Nixon and Nixon's wife is actually one of the four women, she's
the third from the left. Now this artwork is just 37 Gelatin Silver print mounted on
a wall flowing from left to right. It simply displays the subtle effects of time on the
body. K.P.: When I first saw this, I kind of thought
it was different families or different people that maybe looked alike. I didn't know what
to think... right off hand. D.L.: When I first saw this I thought it was
the same people. K.P.: You knew right away?
D.L.: Yeah, I knew right away, what it was. Except?
K.P.: See I didn't know that. D.L.: Well, I knew....
K.P.: First I kind of thought it was people that looked alike and I was like, that'll
be pretty cool, but its, then I kept looking at it and its the same people.
D.L.: Same people, and they are placed in the same order.
K.P.: So you can find out quickly that is the same people.
D.L: They look like that they're close sisters. K.P.: Yeah, it looks like they have a good
family bond. D.L.: Relationship?
K.P: And the artist Nixon, I think it was cool of him to do that. It shows that like
his close to his wife and his sisters. I mean and the...
D.L.: Has a good relationship... with the family.
K.P.: Yeah, has a...yeah a good relationship with his wife and her sisters.
D.L.: And his wife is the second one from the right.
K.P: This one was pretty interesting to look at and just looking at their facial expressions
and see how they aged really, its actually kind of beautiful.
D.L.: This is the last...portrait. K.P: The last picture. The first one was taken
in 1975 and the last one in 2011. D.L.: 2011
K.P: 37 photos in all. D.L.: What I think about this artwork is interesting
how they're placed in the same order year after year. Their facial expressions are nearly
the same and it showing how they aged through time
K.P: It shows that they... I mean for all four of them that they are aging gracefully,
and I like how it shows how they have different hairstyles, and you know how... time changes.
D.L: And so is the clothes that they're wearing. Looks different.
K.P.: Yeah because it's different...you know different times.
K.P.: Their facial expressions. I mean they are not overly smiling or overdoing it, they're
just being natural and I think that just makes it kind of like good art work and I like how
he displayed like across the wall like this. It's kind of like a timeline you go through
little piece of their life. K.P.: Looking at this piece of artwork I get a few feelings
from it. One is that I get kind of safety and like homey type feeling because they're
so closed together, it shows that their family is close together.
D.L.: I agree with you! Yea!... It also makes me want to care about my family because they
look happy and very close and looks that they have a good relationship.
K.P.: Its just like really family oriented They're just very interesting to see how they
go through their life and make these changes. Its like we get a little glimpse of their
life through 37 pictures.
