What should you bring with you to an IRS audit? You would being only those items that the
IRS has requested that you bring to the IRS audit. But you should make sure that you have
all items on the list that has been requested. If you've been contacted and you have been
asked to specific records, let's say to support charitable contributions, then you want to
make sure that you bring those receipts that support charitable contributions and those
receipts only. If you kept your documents in containers, you want to make sure that
you go through those containers and only pull out what you need. The more organized you
are with your documentation, the faster, sooner, and quicker your IRS audit will be concluded.
So you want to make sure as you are preparing your return, you're putting your information
in a neat fashion so that if you are audited, you'll be able to quickly go to that documentation.
Putting your receipts and records away and having them organized, certainly would make
that audit process go easier and quicker, should you have items on your return that
are audited.
