The library here at the Merrill Learning Center is a lot bigger than it seems. Gallaudet Library
has extensive access to research from all over the world with the online catalogues
and databases. The Merrill Learning Center houses the internationally acclaimed Deaf
Collections Library and Archives-all 240,000 volumes-which is dedicated to preserving the
institutional memory of the University and the deaf community. This includes an extensive
video library showcasing speeches, seminars, and conversations by deaf people from all
over the world, including our students, faculty, and alumni. There's material dating all the
way back to 1546. It's the place to find information about the Deaf Culture, and the collection
keeps growing as deaf and hard of hearing people provide monumental impact in society
and research.
As part of the Washington Research Library Consortium, students have access to an online
catalogue of over 7 million volumes from libraries like Georgetown and American University. Students
are able to visit the local consortium libraries and check out materials. If you still can't
find what you need, the Library of Congress is just a couple miles down the road!
