A viewer wants to know, can drinking coffee affect kidney function? Many health professionals
recommend that if you have uh the tendency to form kidney stones or have existing kidney
stones, that throughout the day you should drink plenty of water. They also suggest that
you limit the amount of caffeinated drinks or the amount of caffeinated coffee that you
take in because coffee can have an impact on a particular hormone that allows, that
causes you to lose too much water from your kidneys. So, it's best to limit your caffeine
intake, or talk to your own doctor about that. Caffeine, which in caffeinated drinks or coffee,
can also raise your blood pressure and also raise your heart rate. So again if you have
any clinical conditions, medical conditions, it would be good to talk to your health professional
whether you should limit your caffeine drinking. Of interest, there are loads of studies out
there comparing coffee drinkers to non-coffee drinkers. And actually there's a beta that
shows that coffee drinkers have a lower chance of developing Type II Diabetes versus non-coffee
drinkers. It's not really clear as to whether there is something in non-caffeinated coffee
that protects individuals from different diseases or there is just something different about
individuals who drink coffee versus not. So loads of information out there on the drinking
of caffeine versus not drinking caffeine. But in terms of kidney function, I think kidney
stones are the biggest area where many professionals suggest you limit your caffeine drinking.
So over all I would suggest, talk to your healthcare professional about whether you
should restrict the caffeine in your daily diet.
