“Hi, my name is Steph Cutler and I run an organisation called Making Lemonade. This
is my first video blog for StyleAble. StyleAble is a fashion and lifestyle on-line magazine
for blind and partially sighted women.
My background is actually in fashion as I worked as a fashion designer prior to experiencing
unexpected sight loss. And now what I do…I help people turn the lemons in their life
into lemonade. So that means into a successful and fulfilling future.
Lots of fashion and lifestyle stuff comes with the strapline, ‘look good, feel great’.
I actually think there is something in that. I think the things we wear can enhance our
mood and increase our confidence.
What I want to do today is share with you my three things that do just that.
First is a necklace, which I saw years ago in Selfridges in London. Unfortunately at
the time the price tag was not something that I could afford as I wasn’t on great money,
so I had to walk on by. Then my sister asked me to be her bridesmaid so I saved and saved
and was able to buy it.
This represents to me a sense of achievement, something that seemed unobtainable at first
but then I overcame it. It also reminds me of my sis who I am really close to so I always
get a really nice feeling when I wear this.
The second is my winter coat. I love this coat because it’s super soft and when I
wear it and it’s really cold outside it makes me feel really snug. I often get a few
compliments as well which reinforces the confidence. And the third reason why I love it is because
I only paid a faction of the price tag which also makes me feel good!
My third thing is my absolute favourite. Last but by no means least ….is my pair of shoes.
These little bad boys are fabulous! I actually wore these on my wedding day so great memories
of a great day. Interestingly when I wear them, they make
me feel taller, they actually make me taller, but I feel taller inside too.
So there you go. It’s possible to look good but even more importantly, it’s possible
to feel great too”.
