Hi, this is Sean Hobson, and what we're talking about right now is the proper mechanics in
order to get yourself ready to make a good jump shot. The first thing we want to talk
about here is in order to make a jump shot, you first have to get yourself open. Nobody's
ever going to be able to take a jump shot by just standing on the court. If you are,
you're very lucky, because most of the time that doesn't happen. If you're going to be
a good jump shooter, and you're going to shoot the ball a lot, you have to get yourself open.
There's a couple different ways that we can talk about setting up the jump shot. One is,
if this is going to be our shooter, he can use this man's screen. So if Hunter wants
to get the ball to shoot, he's going to take a couple steps down, he's going to let Zack
come over and set the screen for him, then he's going to pop up off the screen. He's
got to pop up off the screen with his hands ready, so that he can make a jump shot. That's
one way that he can get open. Another way is, if he's at the top and he wants to get
a jump shot, he can fake his man by taking a couple steps or running this way, V cut,
and pop back to the ball. You see right there, he quickly got the defender to drop and then
he comes up and he's able to get himself open for a shot. And the last way is for him to
be able to back cut. If I've got the ball on the perimeter, and he wants the shot, all
he has to do is cut inside, and try to get himself open for a jump shot. But you've got
to move in the offense. You've got to set yourself up for shots. You've got to get yourself
open, and that's going to make you a better jump shooter.
