*** Diebenkorn
was just an easy guy to get along with
a delight to find in the group of
painters that i knew at that time
we'd all be sitting around
with a jug of Gallo Hearty Burgundy and
I was really struck with the fact that
this quiet guy who sat in the corner
was the only one who didn't
participate in the
terrible moaning and groaning of
how bad
painters were being treated, and that was
really consistent with his work
this is probably the only picture I shot of him where he didn't have a cigarette
in hand or
dangling out of his mouth, but
it's been a long time coming
to have this show
but my god it's really worth it
there has never been
such
enthusiasm he is a real local hero
