It's the end of the year and I don't have any party poppers, whistles or anything close
to that, so this noisy shirt will have to do.
Hi there, I'm Roberto. Hope you guys are doing well.
2013: What a year it was and now it comes to an end.
We watched a lot of YouTube videos this year. There were many tags floating around.
I actually did three of those. I did the 7 facts about me, I also did the
25 facts about me, and I also did the love letter tag.
By the way, that one I did it before it was even a thing.
Hipster alert! But really, what best time to show some love
to your favorite YouTubers that on Valentine's Day?
Memes were a big thing, especially animal memes.
While Grumpy Cat came up last year, this was the year she really blew out, from merchandise
to social media accounts, to commercial appearances, even a movie deal!
But somehow the Internet had to make up for such a grumpy, unimpressionable cat, so it
gave us a cute dog so impressionable it can't even articulate correct sentences.
By the way, I still don't know if it is pronounced "dodge", "doge", "doh-gee", all I know is
that a lot of people hate it probably because of the use of Comic Sans, but I really love
it. It could be that even though I own a cat,
I love dogs too. We really twerked our way away from the Harlem
Shake, whatever the heck that was. By the way, I still have no idea what the
heck the Harlem Shake had to do with terrorists. And we were introduced to one of life's biggest
mysteries, one that really awakened our curiosity. What does the fox say?
Okay, this song and this video was so awesome that it couldn't be avoided.
In fact, it was a really, really sad day for me when I finally discovered what the fox
really says. And it isn't ringing-dinging-dinging-ding-a-ding
or wapa-papa-papa-pow! I'm not going to spoil it directly but needless
to say that if you have heard the various screaming goat remixes in YouTube...
[scream] ...you pretty much heard what the fox really
says. This was a big year for tech.
Wearable tech became a big buzz this year. Stuff like smart watches and Google Glass
were really big pieces of conversation, especially because of their ability to be used by creepers.
And like I said in my video about my thoughts on Google Glass, it's up to these companies
to educate consumers in what these technologies can do.
But too bad Samsung took the complete opposite approach when they made a commercial for the
Galaxy Gear, that pretty much cements the idea notion that these devices are for creepers
who like to take pictures and video of you without you even knowing.
Way to go, Samsung! I mean, way to fail!
Apple finally brought some color to the iPhone and introduced some ugly, croc-looking cases
to go along with it. But to me the biggest tech disappointment
was the Moto X. Why? Mainly because it wasn't what I really
wanted it to be. What if it's not "Moto X" but instead it's
"Motox"? Motox: It's how you take care of wrinkles
in the 21st century. Because Botox is so last decade.
So I guess we'll have to keep waiting for that rejuvenating phone.
And YouTube? Oh lord, what a crazy year it was because of them!
First we had to endure the radical changes to the channel layouts, which despite some
kicking and screaming from some users, we pretty much survived just fine.
The same can't be said about the new comment system.
There are still issues Google has to work out in both the YouTube side and the Google+
side before the comment system can be considered reliable.
But nothing tops the whole mess that was caused when YouTube changed their Content ID system
and started flagging a lot of gaming videos for copyright reasons.
And the biggest problem is that not only they didn't inform users ahead of time of these
changes but they also applied them retroactively, which hit a lot of gaming channels really
hard when it comes to their income. Let's hope some common sense and better communication
skills are among YouTube's new year resolutions for 2014.
But wow, what a year this was! Whether you had a great year and you are optimistic
for the new year that's about to begin, or this year was awful for you and you can't
wait for it to be over, we all have a reason to celebrate so be safe, enjoy and happy new
year, everybody! You know what this video really needed?
it around. You can also subscribe to my channel.
It is free, and you’ll be notified when I release a new video.
Thanks again and I'll see you guys soon.
