What's the thing? A clapper?
A clapper! Here we go. Take 3!
Welcome to the very first video in this series. Over the course of the next few videos I'm gonna take you on a tour of Ultra-Short Race-Pace
Training. And we're gonna go on that tour for two reasons. The first reason is because
you probably have a lot of questions that you want answered. I've heard people asking
a lot of things, they wanna know: What exactly is USRPT and is this the right program for me if I am
a distance swimmer? I've even seen some people ask: How exactly is it that these guys are
swimming 25s and 50s in practice, but then they go to the meet and they're breaking records
in the 200s without any taper? How exactly does that work and what is the science behind that?
So we're gonna be taking a look at a lot of
these questions and if you have any questions you can send them to us on Twitter. You can
follow us on twitter @swimusrpt. We'll be taking questions from there.
The second reason that we're doing this video series is because we have a problem in the
swimming community and that's not a big deal because everybody's got problems, but when
you don't acknowledge that you have a problem then we kinda have a situation. So I guess
you can consider this an intervention of sorts for the swimming community.
So what's the big problem? I think you would agree with me that coaching
nowadays is quite different from what it used to be. Back in the day coaches were using
a lot of guesswork to figure out what was best for their swimmers. They were copying
other swimmers just because they were fast. They were pretty much making up techniques;
just guessing. We call this belief-based coaching. Fast forward to 2014 and things are a bit
different. We have an abundance of evidence that allows us to make much better decisions
and we can make the jump from belief-based coaching to evidence-based coaching. Here's
the problem though: not everyone is making that jump. We're still stuck in belief-based
coaching, we're still copying a lot of other swimmers and we're still doing things that
have been proven to be inefficient, harmful and at best a waste of time.
Starting with the next video we'll be diving into USRPT. So you're definitely gonna want
to go below this video and click subscribe so that you can know when the next video comes
out. If you have any questions you can tweet them at us @swimusrpt or if you just want
to join the community, go over to www.usrpt.com and sign up for the e-mail list and you can
also join the forums and check out any articles we have there. That's where we'll be posting
all of our information. So don't forget to subscribe and I'll see
you in the next video.
Boom baby!
