We are Northampton’s housing solutions service, providing a one stop shop for homeless youngsters.
We’re here to provide support and advice for 16 to 17 year olds who have been forced
to leave home with no means of alternate accommodation or support, whether they are at school or
not.
If you find yourself in this position then head over to housing solution service at the
one stop shop in Northampton’s Guild Hall and our team will be there to listen to your
situation. We’ll talk about school, work and any health or emotional issues and visit
your parents to see if we can work things out and if not we’ll sort out temporary
accommodation for you whist we put together a long term solution with you. Heres one of
our 'housing options' team members with some more details:
If any young person aged 16 or 17 finds themselves in a desperate situation they can come in,
see the initial assessment response team and be seen as an emergency case on the same day.
If you're still at secondary school this will probably be a foster placement. If you're
16 or 17 and not at school it’ll probably be a safe temporary place to live such as
a small flat with basic furnishings. Both social services and housing will be there
to provide regular support and advice.
Our team works hard to support you and within 7 days of visiting the one stop shop we’ll
aim to find a long term housing solution for your needs. With a tough road ahead, our team
will help you with every step. The initial assessment response team, with whom the journey
started, assess all of your needs. They work with you on any welfare issues and are there
to offer emotional support. Our housing option officers will help you with getting into the
right accommodation and our gateway officers will support you in setting up your home and
make sure you are accessing the right benefits.
Moving forward, our goal is to work with you in order to figure out a long term plan and
we will make this happen by providing support with education, training and employment. So,
thats the journey. One that starts with a same day assessment followed up by a full
assessment of your needs within 7 days and if you find yourself in this position, then
we’ll work towards a solution by supporting, advising and helping to re-house you.
