Good afternoon, everyone.
My name is Mona Davenport, and I'm the
Director of Minority Affairs.
I'm just going to give you a little bit about our program,
the different offices that we have under the Office of
Minority Affairs.
Currently we have six professional staff, give grads,
and three support staff.
Minority Affairs is split up into three major programs, and
that's our particular office, Minority Affairs, which handles
our cultural months.
We celebrate Latino Heritage Month,
which is starting next week.
And our banquet, our Latino Heritage banquet,
is Sunday, September 14.
We're hoping that you all attend.
We have our Gateway Office, which is a provisional program
for incoming and first-time freshmen only.
Then we have our TRIO Office, which is located in
Ninth Street Hall.
And that works primarily with all students--freshmen,
sophomores, juniors, and seniors--but these students have
to be the first in their families to attend college
and/or are low income or disabled.
We also offer scholarships to our students.
We truly help with the recruitment and the retention of
our students of color.
And very brief, but I just wanted to let you know some of
the programs that we have in the office.
I'm hoping that all of you come out to all of our
cultural months.
We also celebrate Native American Heritage Month in
November; in February, African-Ameican Heritage Month;
and in April, Asian Heritage Month.
So I hope that you guys come out and pretty much try to get as
much cultural enrichment that you can get.
That's why we have the programs that we have, and we look
forward to seeing you.
Thank you.
