Hallo and welcome,
today we are at the Reiss-Engelhorn-Museum, where the Crossover Composition Award takes place.
from 82 compositions six were chosen, which were played by the siblings Dingler and jugded by the audience.
Mr Dingler, how difficult was the decision to take six of 82 compositions?
Surprisingly it wasn´t that hard.
We considered for a while, but when we played the pieces, it became clear immediately who the winners are.
Many pieces were very good - but not accurately written for the competition.
Many pieces were beautiful, but in parts very abstract.
und not like this, that we were convinced, that they would kick up the audience´s heels -
as it was written in the announcement.
Actually we don´t know which artist is hidden behind each number - but do you have a favorite already?
Yes I have a clear favorite ... the piece number 2.
What do you like especially about that piece?
I was fascinated about the interaction of the two. The virtuosity is terrific -
and both fused to one instrument - that fascinated me very much!
I think it´s a wonderful idea for composers to get more attention.
Of course I have a favorite, Number 6 was great -
but I have no idea who´s behind that number.
I think the not exaggerated melancholy in that pieces is just great!
Do you have a favorite this evening? - Absolutly!
And you want to say me which one? - Number 4.
And why number 4?
Because I think it´s the most varied piece. There was a pizzicato - passage and that I liked most.
Our condition was, that the composers must be present at the concert -
except they are at another continent. Where are you at the moment?
I am in Wilmington, United States of America.
And as you see I have to play a concert by myself in some hours, I warm up already,
but I was there from the beginning. I think it´s very, very brilliant what you are doing!
You played good, too, the idea is great and I think it should go on like this!
Thank you!
Piece number 4 won the first prize, from the USA here live with us: Benedikt Brydern.
Congratulation! - Thank you.
Which ideas did you have when you made the preparation?
I am actually a violinist and normally I just start to play.
When I write a piece for violine, I take my violine and play a little bit.
And then some thoughts came up and as a composer you have to complete and develop them.
Was it a fierce competition this evening?
Of course, but I liked the other pieces too.
I couldn´t have known which piece is the really favorite.
It is hard to tell it with things like this and you could see it at the votings:
It was a thing about only about 10 oder 20 votings more or less.
When we were playing I always thought the "Autobahn" from Benedikt Brydern is the favorite.
What was so special?
It is a beautiful piece, it has a good tempo
and the many chords form a swoosh of sound - I like this very much.
When we practised all the pieces, it grabbed me most.
When will the next competition take place? - 2012
As you see, the places are empty and the after show party is starting.
Our congratulations to the winners, too, your´s Jasmin Ullmann.
