Hello I'm Nicole Welch and I work
at Toronto Public Health.
Toronto is a global city, and we welcome
people from all over the world.
Making a new home in Toronto can be exciting,
but it can also be difficult and frustrating.
At Toronto Public Health, we do everything we can
to make sure newcomers stay healthy.
Our services are free, confidential,
and you don't need an OHIP card.
Call us. We even have interpreters
so we can help you in your first language.
Say the language you'd prefer and your question.
For example, "Spanish, pregnant",
and an interpreter will join the call.
This is Mita and her son Dion.
She has been in Toronto for four years.
Like many newcomers, she misses the support
of her family and friends.
It was especially hard when Dion was born.
I had a very difficult delivery and after
coming home I suddenly felt
so lonely and isolated.
I don't have extended family here.
I just called them because I needed the services.
I was weeping, I was not happy
at that time, very sad, helpless.
It was just a phone call I made
and after that everything fell in place.
The services that Toronto Public Health
has helped me go through the whole process.
On the phone, I got the information
and sometimes little tips.
Or if I had questions regarding anything.
And there are community programs
for infants and mothers.
I am getting ready to join them.
That will give me more social network,
which I need. If I mingle with newborn mothers,
that will give me lots of things like learning
from each other. I need to get out
to socialize and have my life too.
Hi! How are you?
I am Doctor Wong. Nice to meet you.

such as birth control or
other *** health concerns.

or you can visit one of our clinics.
