Hey, I'm Sterling, and I want to illustrate for you the significance of what Jesus has done for us in all reality with regard to our sin.
I have two friends here, Chris and Zach. They're holding their 'cup of life' here,
and Romans 5:12 states that through one man, sin entered the world, and thus it has entered upon all men.
We have this 'sin stain' in our lives. Each one of these drops represents 'sin', and they are poisonous.
We're all stained by sin. Romans 3:23 takes it one step further -- for ALL have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.
Now say that Chris here -- he's done a few things, and you may consider them a little more 'innocent'...
Maybe he has told a few 'white lies', lied to his parents, cheated on a test, whatever the case...
Say that Zach here has done everything in his power to sin as much as he can against God (thankfully not the case in real life).
Paul elaborates that there are 613 commandments in the Old Testament.
It's not just the Ten Commandments! We're told to do a whole lot of things in the Old Testament --
and yet this was the Law -- the Schoolmaster that trains us up to the grace that has come through Jesus Christ.
Say that Zach has broken every one -- a big spurt of sin -- and yet both are the same color. We're ALL guilty of sin.
Essentially, at Judgment, what God does is the equivalent of saying, 'Drink what's in your hand.'
Now, what has Jesus done for us?
In Zach's case, if he comes and repents of his sin (asks forgiveness, turns from his sin),
and he exchanges his cup with Jesus...
Jesus lived a pure and sinless life. Notice that there's no red in this!
There are no poisonous drops -- no sin -- and Jesus was fully pleasing to God the Father.
He was the pure sacrifice that God has provided for us.
What Jesus has done for all of us is that, through faith in Him, accepting His Gift,
He has taken on all of our sin. The same is true for Chris...and me, and you!
Chris can also, through hope and faith in Jesus Christ, exchange his sin for the righteousness of Jesus Christ.
2 Corinthians 5:21 illustrates this beautifully --
"He who knew no sin was made sin for us, so that we could become the righteousness of God through Him."
May we love this truth and embrace this! Through faith in Jesus Christ, we can walk in purity.
At the Judgment (we do not need to fear death), we do not need to fear if we have been forgiven through Jesus Christ.
I hope that this is a blessing to you, and God bless you. May we grasp that truth, and may we have pure cups when we stand before Him. Amen!
