- Golf's always a game of inches.
You can play it forever and you're always
fixing things and tweaking to win.
I really like that aspect of it.
My name is Haley Hewer
and I'm an amateur golfer.
Both my parents golfed,
so they really got me into it
around the age of three I got my first little
plastic set of golf clubs.
And hit them around.
And then just over the years, they took
me out on the course and hit little shots from around
the green or whatever.
Just to get started.
And then in about grade 10,
I was really feeling golf
and I wanted to give it a go
and I started the Zone Two
which is the Okanagan golf for juniors.
And I played along there
and then there's the Maple Leaf junior tour
which goes all across Canada.
And so then from there it escalated really well.
I played in a whole bunch of tournaments
down in Vancouver
and ended up going to college.
So I play for Northern Michigan University Wildcats.
And we are a division II school
up in the upper peninsula of Michigan.
It's very different a lot more pressure,
mind you we have great coaches that are super supportive
along the whole way but there's always pressure
on yourself and within your team
and you always want to perform well for them.
And once I get on the course, I relax.
Once I'm kind of in the zone and I'm like okay
I've done this before,
I'm out here playing, I'm hitting, I've warmed up.
I know what I'm doing.
So, it's just the before
when you're really nervous.
You feel it.

Women's golf is definitely starting to become more
recognized which is awesome
and I like being kind of in
that transition for Women's golf.
So it's great now.
People are watching it more and paying
more attention and even like the LPGA on TV
is getting more viewers.
So I really like that aspect of kind
of growing the game in a sense.
It's rewarding.
I really love playing the college golf level
because like you get the recognition which is nice.
Like people now starting to know you
and that kind of thing and watching your journey
which is awesome and like the member os Penticton golf
where I work, they're so supportive
and are always watching and I like that recognition.
I'm very proud.
I never thought I could have made it this far,
especially college golf right
in itself there is amazing.
So I mean if I did make it to the LPGA,
I definitely would give it
a good run but I know if I didn't I'd be like, hey,
I did my best.
That's as far as it's gonna go.
And I mean you can play golf
until you're 70 or 80 years old.
So definitely won't put down the clubs
whether it works out or not.
I'll still be playing.
